A journey of discovery and personal growth – Mistral Boréal -exchange in Helsinki, part 3

This exchange with Mistral Boreal has been an incredible opportunity and a truly unforgettable experience. Before this program, I had never been to Finland, and I have always found it fascinating to discover a new country and immerse myself in a new culture.

One of the biggest shocks for me was the short length of the days and the school days. At first, it felt unusual, but I quickly realized that the shorter school days actually provided me with more free time. I’ve been to cooking and art classes in school, to dance classes and to the opera house to see a ballet performance. This week, my host family and I are planning to attend an ice hockey game, which I am really looking forward to.

Before enrolling in this exchange, I knew very little about Finland. One of my favorite discoveries has been the delicious Finnish pastries, especially korvapuusti and mokkapalat but I enjoyed the savory food as well, especially salmon soup.

I also visited very beautiful places like the centre of Helsinki, I liked visiting monuments such as the different churches and the Senate Square, but I also enjoyed walking around and going to shops. I went to Turku on a school trip and to Porvoo last weekend. But I also enjoyed the everyday life and walking around the neighbourhood next to the school.

I really like the architecture of central Helsinki, which is very different from the city where I live (Marseille). It is a much more recent city, whereas Marseille is a much older city.

Overall, this exchange has been a journey of discovery, learning, and personal growth. I am grateful for every moment and every experience that has made this adventure so special.
