Je m’appelle Camille Furlan-Dubois, je suis français originaire de la Cote d’Azur, un espace du Sud Est de la France sur le littoral méditerranéen, dans la ville de Vence située près de Nice. J’ai 17 ans et suis en Terminale au lycée, c’est-à-dire pour nous la dernière année de lycée. J’ai une petite sœur et mes parents sont séparés bien qu’ils vivent tous deux à Vence. En ce qui concerne mes passe-temps, nos journées d’écoles et nos devoirs étant assez conséquents j’ai dû arrêter la pratique du sport en club mais je pratiquais le judo depuis plus de 10 ans, maintenant je continue à pratiquer du sport en allant à la salle ou bien en courant seul ou avec des amis, souvent en montagne. En effet, Vence est surplombée par un baou, le Baou des Blancs, c’est-à-dire une petite montagne en Provence (zone géographique dans laquelle j’habite).
Dans le système scolaire français, nous devons choisir d’étudier davantage certaines matières que nous nommons « spécialités », pour ma part j’étudie notamment les mathématiques et la physique-chimie (physique et chimie faisant parties de la même matière en France). En parallèle nous avons également de nombreux cours obligatoires tels que l’histoire et la géographie, le sport (que l’on nomme EPS pour Education Physique et Sportive), anglais, espagnol (nous devons choisir une langue entre espagnol, italien and allemand) et philosophie. Par ailleurs nous pouvons choisir des options, en ce qui me concerne j’ai pris les options Latin, Grec, Section européenne (anglais plus poussé) et maths expert (mathématiques plus poussées). Contrairement à l’école en Finlande notre emploi du temps en France est fixe pour toute l’année, de plus nous sommes chacun dans une classe fixée avec qui nous partageons les matières obligatoires, toutefois nous sommes généralement séparés en cours de spécialités ainsi que lors de nos options.
Grâce à mon option Section Européenne j’ai pu demander à participer à cette échange avec la Finlande à travers l’organisation Franco-Finlandaise Mistral Boréal, afin de progresser en anglais, rencontrer de nouvelles personnes et découvrir la Finlande. C’est ainsi que je suis entré en contact avec Nuutti, d’abord par message puis en vrai lorsqu’il est venu en France pendant 3 semaines du 28 septembre au 19 octobre. Lors de son séjour il m’a accompagné dans ma vie quotidienne française, à l’école et également à l’extérieur. Nous avons visité des villes autour de chez nous telles que Saint Paul de Vence, petit village fortifié, c’est-à-dire entouré de remparts, Cannes, Cagnes-sur-Mer ainsi que Nice et Monaco (et son fameux casino de Monte Carlo).
Par la suite je suis à mon tour venu en Finlande, arrivant la nuit du 26 au 27 octobre, en étant accueilli par Nuutti et sa famille. Je suis là depuis peu mais tout s’est très bien passé jusqu’à maintenant, l’entourage de Nuutti est très fun et sympa, ses parents cuisinent de bons plats et j’ai pu tester leur sauna, chose que je n’avais jamais faite car nous avons peu de saunas en France. La vie en Finlande, ressemble à la vie française sous certains aspects, nous commençons les cours vers 8h ou 9h également, en prenant souvent des bus pour se déplacer, mais il y a tout de même des différences notables : par rapport à la météo il fait bien plus froid en Finlande, à telle point que je vais peut-être pouvoir voir de la neige en ville, tandis que là où j’habite nous devons aller haut en montagne pour voir de la neige l’hiver, souvent en faible quantité, par ailleurs la nuit tombe bien plus vite en Finlande et je suis surpris de faire encore des activités alors qu’il fait nuit. Le lycée finlandais est aussi différent, par exemple pour entrer dans mon lycée il est obligatoire de montrer un carnet spécial indiquant que l’on est bien élève, pour des raisons de sécurité. La cantine est également différente, nous devons payer nos repas et nous devons souvent faire la queue longtemps avant de pouvoir manger.
Je suis heureux de pouvoir séjourner en Finlande et remercie ceux qui m’ont accueilli.

I’m Camille Furlan-Dubois, I’m a French guy, coming from the Côte d’Azur, a space of France’s South-East, on the Mediterranean littoral. I’m living in Vence, a small city fortified near to Nice. I’m 17 years old, in Terminal at the high school, it means for us the last year of high school. I have a younger sister, and my parents are separated although they are both living in Vence. About my hobbies, I had to stop the sport in club this year because of the length of the school days and the amount of homework but I used to practise judo during more than 10 years. Nowadays I still practice sport at gym or by running, alone or with friends, usually in mountain. In fact, Vence is overlooked by Baou des Blancs, a baou is a small mountain in Provence (geographic area where I live).
In the French scholar system, we must choose certain subjects that we will study more than the other, we call these subjects “specialities”. For my part I’m studying especially Mathematics and Physic-Chemistry (Physic and chemistry being a single subject for us). Besides we have many mandatory subjects such as history and geography, sport (called EPS for “Education Physique et Sportive”), English, Spanish (we can choose between Spanish, Italian and German), and philosophy. What’s more we have the possibility to choose options, I personally took Latin, Greek, European Section (more advanced English) and maths expert (more advanced maths). In opposite of the Finnish high school, our schedule never changes for the whole year, besides each of us is in a specific class and we are always with the students of our class during the mandatory subjects, though we are mostly separated during the specialities’ lessons like we are during our options.
Thanks to my option: European Section, I have been able to ask for this exchange with Finland through the Franco-Finnish organisation: Mistral Boreal, with the aim of improving my English, meet new people and discover Finland. That’s how I met Nuutti, firstly through messages, then in real life when he came in France for 3 weeks, from the 28th of September to 19th of November. During his stay he came with me during my French everyday life, at the school and outside. We visited cities around our village, such as Saint Paul de Vence, Cannes, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Nice and Monaco (and its famous casino of Monte Carlo).
Thereafter it was my turn to come in Finland, coming in the night between the 26th and 27th of October, being welcomed with Nuutti and his family. I’m not here since a long time, but everything went well. The people close to Nuutti are fun and sympathetic. Nuutti’s parents cook well and are very welcoming, I tested for the first time sauna, we really don’t have many saunas in France. Finland’s life looks like the French’s life by some aspects, we also start school at 8a.m or 9a.m usually, a lot of students take the bus etc. yet there are some differences : as for the weather it’s of course much more colder than in France, I hope to see snow, in Vence there is never any snow, if we want to ski during the winter we have to go in the mountains, and, even there, there is sometimes not a lot of snow, what’s more, it’s night earlier in Finland than in France and that’s why I’m surprised to still doing activities during the night. The Finnish high school is also different, for instance to come in my school it’s obligatory to show at the entrance a special notebook showing that we really are a student, for security reasons (there were some tragic incidents in some school). The cafeteria is as well different, in our school we must pay to eat, and we usually must wait a lot to take our plates, because of the number of persons eating at the same time for just 2 places where we can take our dishes.
